Actor Photo Shoot Guide

It's totally normal to feel a little nervous during your headshot session, but try to relax and have fun!

Read below how to make the most of it:

Actor's and Actress' headshots

What to Wear

  • Please keep it simple and classic: Solid colors, simple necklines, and minimal patterns work best. Avoid logos, busy prints, and anything too trendy. You want your face to be the focus!

  • Choose colors that flatter your skin tone: Experiment with different shades to see what makes your eyes pop and your skin glow. Jewel tones or earthy colors often work well.

  • Bring a few options: Having a couple of shirts or tops allows for variety in your headshots.

How to Look

  • Natural and approachable: Think "friendly" and "confident." A genuine smile is your best asset!

  • Well-groomed: Make sure your hair is neat and styled, and your nails are clean.

  • Good posture: Stand tall and keep your shoulders relaxed.

Makeup

  • Light and natural: Just enough to even out your skin tone and enhance your features. Avoid heavy foundation, dramatic eyeshadow, or bold lipstick.

  • Focus on clear skin: Conceal any blemishes, but don't overdo it.

Hair Style

  • Your "best" everyday look: How you normally wear your hair when you look your best.

  • Keep it away from your face: You want your features to be visible.

Why Character Look Match is Important

Your headshot is your acting resume. Casting directors use it to see if you're right for a role quickly. If your headshot reflects the types of characters you can play, you're more likely to get called in for auditions.

Before the Shoot:

  • Practice in the mirror: Get comfortable with different expressions and angles. Figure out your "good side" and practice smiling naturally.

  • Arrive early: This gives you time to settle in and chat with the photographer.

  • Communicate with the photographer: Let them know your concerns or preferences. A good photographer will guide you and make you feel at ease.

During the Shoot:

  • Listen to the photographer's directions: They'll help you with posing and finding the best angles.

  • Relax your face and jaw: Tension shows up in photos, so take deep breaths and try to stay loose.

  • Think about the characters you want to play: This will help you convey the right emotions in your expressions.

  • Engage with the camera: Imagine you're talking to someone you like. This will help your eyes look alive and engaging.

  • Don't be afraid to move: Shift your weight, change your expression, and try different angles.

  • Be yourself: Let your personality shine through!

Most Importantly:

  • Have fun! A relaxed and enjoyable experience will result in better photos.

  • You can bring a playlist of your favorite music to help you relax and get into the groove.
